A love poem to Elohim

Image
Elohim is the Trinity and contains the Trinity The spirit of love in every child’s soul. Elohim is in the call of the wood pigeon The cry of the buzzard, and the humming of the bees. Elohim is the wind blowing in the trees  and the eternal, ancient, ancestral home. Elohim is the joyful embrace of loving hands  and the smile of Jesus. Elohim is every Child of God  and the beauty in Everyman’s soul - the universal pearl in the dust and grime of Earth. Elohim is the alchemist of time  and the timeless majesty of mountains  that crumble into the deep blue sea. Elohim is described by C S Lewis  in storybooks for children,  as magic, from before the dawn of time..... © Iona Waters 2025

Poetry is ....

Poetry is…. The ohhh much travelled word, written in response to Stephen Fry's 'The Ode Less Travelled'. Poetry is the Ionian sea and mountains The sweaty chef, on a furtive break, smoking at sunset Leaning, silhouetted against the orange sky. Poetry is the vineyards with slowly ripening fruit That mellows into wine As the seasons flow. Poetry is words placed randomly and wanton Defiantly tumbling into existence On a page of paper or a device made overseas. Poetry is the language of the soul The discord of the struggle The expression of the flawed Trying to communicate Life’s cliched tapestry Poetry is words that rebel against the rules Of time and space and death and limitation Of a world made of molecules  And scientific precision. Poetry shouts in the night  When all are asleep  And whispers live to the full on a dull and dreary day. There are those that write poetry Those that ignore it Those that read it  And then, there are those that live and breathe it...

Sabbath

Image
Dosing decadently and seductively  Eating strawberries and cherries Cosseted in bed On Sunday afternoon. Drinking copious cups of Earl Grey tea And walking in the weather Whatever it may be. Soaking in a bubbling bath Lighting a scented candle Letting go and enjoying just being Taking a break from striving. Allowing Love's firmament to seep into one's spirit Letting the bonds of darkness tumble from my mind.  Is this the spirit of Sabbath in every soul? © Iona Waters

Eden's Birdsong

Help us to drink deeply of Your Love in every passing moment As we breathe gently of summer With cotton clouds drifting over us in azure blue Flowers entwined with loving care Whispering grasses seed and fade As players tread on eternal steps In fleeting earthly life, beheld Vineyards rich with fruit Are bathed in Eden's birdsong

Sunlight

The Sun adorns the shimmering leaves With a lace dress of gold. Green and gold dance as he weaves Patterns of life untold.   Suspended in the firmament Of earthly dust and flame The leaves tell of Love’s long lament At worldly loss and pain.   Beauty of the leaves cast its Heavenly made design Imbuing with hope as befits Those still entrapped in time.   Sharp light invades my soul Golden pure notes of life Time’s passing shadows toll; Falling leaves cut like ice.   Good death come swiftly now Repay your lover’s lament With a silent heart that no pain Can reach, nor fear can tear from a life So spent. © Iona Waters

Breathe Deeply

A doleful village clock Mournful of each passing hour Counts out time’s fading leaves. Its resonate note pauses too long A desolate voice, it hangs in the air Reluctant to relinquish existence Before yielding to the harvest dust of passing time.   A solemn warning against waiting, it says “Live now and breathe deeply of life In the eternity of each fleeting moment”. Tomorrow will soon be yesterday. Loose no time to live without love Wherever it may be hiding. Banish the threat of living as a shadow Of what should have been. Life’s bitter sweet colour Waits to bestow new vigour.   Live not in the shadow of time past. Messy, ceaseless searching is better Than to fall away into the apparent safety of Shadows and sidelines.   Breathe deeply of life in the eternity of each passing moment. Accept life’s gauntlet, Obey the rocky pathways that shout in silence Around life’s ever changing sea.   Do not fear the ...
